Calling All Girleens

My friend and I started doing Irish voices at work to amuse ourselves. We called each other "girleen" and would go on about trivial matters which our Irish accents made hilarious (we felt).

What is the point of this duo? I've wondered that. I decided they were trying to break away from being conventional and, still worse, sentimental. They're trying to be artists. But they keep getting pulled back to softer, easier modes. They represent the weak soul in all of us -- the moment right before you cram a sizable piece of fudge in your mouth despite your vows to lose weight.

Sentimentality is funny, and trying to be a serious artist is funny, because it's so flippin hard that setbacks are the name of the game. They're the air you breathe. Try to survive that without some sachets, and cozy stories about leprechauns, and a lot of lattes. You can't, I bet.
