Today I Learned

Batman Returns is like an antidote to the excessively dark, hard to follow Dark Knight. It feels as gentle as a fairy tale after the mayhem and cruelty of the latter. I know TDK is supposed to be following the darkness of the original comic books, but even so the big screen can really make the violence over the top.

I think guns are a regrettable inclusion in a superhero movie. Guns tend to trump even the genius of the superhero's abilities.

And Danny Devito's drab little Penguin outfit was hilarious -- pitiful and ugly, like an Edward Gorey drawing.
